Simmered on the stove for 15-20 minutes, cooled and pureed in a blender till velvety smooth, this pear sauce is just right. Gorgeous pear flavor, sweet enough that no sugar is needed, and a little whisper of vanilla and spices for warmth. I’ve loved eating small bowls of this with my lunches. It’s a great snack with a little granola on top, and you can even stir it into your morning bowl of oatmeal for a brilliant breakfast.
I've found that if I leave all the peels on, it's a bit gritty, but I hate to lose all that fiber, so I usually peel half the pears. It works like a dream.
Serves: 1½ quarts (about 6 cups)
Ingredients
- 5-6 large pears (or 6-7 medium ones), peeled if desired then cored and diced
- ¼ cup water (you could also sub in apple cider or apple juice)
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp cardamom
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Place diced pears, water, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg in a large saucepan. Cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium low and continue simmering for 15-20 minutes, or until the pears are quite soft.
Let cool, then puree in a blender, food processor (or right in the pot with an immersion blender) until completely smooth.
